:<( - Sanding

Sanding is for the birds, and they're on Christina's side of the family. Give me an electric sander any day, but oh no, it has to be by hand. "No electric sander is going to touch my walls!" I guess we have any ownership doubts gone now. My bad " You don't sand the walls with an electric sander" is the correct quote. Same dif. This is just a humorous post, one sanding down, one to go. With finer grains, whopee! or is that woopee! (whoopee?) Any ways we are painting this weekend!

Furniture in the Hall

Hal moved everything out of the back bedroom and into the hall so we can recreate it as our bedroom. Good job Hal!

Slivers

Yes, look closely. That is raw wood you see next to the run, worn raw from decades of burlap backed rugs with no rug pads. Every time you take a step it wears the floor down more. You say, get a rug? Hmmp.

Daisy's First Day

Daisy and her crew dusted, washed, mopped and vacuumed everything in the house. The house breathed a sigh of relief while they were here. Hal thinks it is hilarious that I am so happy and excited for clean. But clean makes me happy so he's happy that I'm happy.

Baby steps, right?

Housekeeper

Hurrah! We just hired a housekeeper to help with the de-bachelorization of the house. We talked about the house, I told her my frustrations and what I needed - someone to help me through the renovations, the really deep cleaning and the organization of the house. She gave me some suggestions immediately and we are already working on it (changing up the bedrooms).

Having an impartial opinion with constant pressure will help us move towards our goals and see progress. Thanks, Daisy!

Progress in the Closet

We made a lot of progress on the house over the weekend. It feels good, we are going the right direction!

Simplifying

You can have so much in a room that you don't appreciate the nice things you have. - Marsha Barreiro, Country Home, December 2008, p71

Bedroom Plans

We've decided to change around the rooms and make the front bedroom into a guest room/dressing room and the back bedroom into our sleeping room.

The room is currently hideous. Yellow walls (not objectionable on their own) with baby blue and orange sherbert splotches on the lower parts of the wall, a formal blue and gold border around the top of the wall, and an embossed border used to cover the woodwork around the door. The baseboards are orange sherbert. WHY????? Then, there are the teddy bears that I won't even go into. The room looks like it has been redecorated several times without take any of the former decoration down. Layer upon layer, the first one may have been nice in it's day, but the additional layers got really funky.

The plan is to paint the woodwork white, except for any bare wood, which we will leave. The walls will be a straw or wheat color and the ceiling will be white. No wallpaper or borders, just plain. Then we will put down polyurethane to protect us and the floors before we move the bed, nightstands and lamps and the chest into the room. We will try to stick just to that.

Huhh?

So, I guess I don;t know what the blog is about, but I assume the house has been named, which I actually like.
